China to Train Five Thousand Football Coaches

China to Train Five Thousand Football Coaches
Jul 06, 2015 By eChinacities.com

The Ministry of Education has announced an initiative to train over five thousand football coaches in an effort to strengthen the country's base in the sport.

The initiative is designed to train up to 5,400 football coaches in elementary schools and over two thousand principals to head specialized football training schools, and will last from 2015-2020. The goal is to create a backbone of football coaches that understand the game, are more specialized, and excel at coaching. It is hoped that the level of youth football around the country will improve.

The joint effort is in response to an overall directive issued by China’s State Council. This goes to show that perhaps football isn't just a popular sport, but a national concern.

The problem here is who are they gonna get to train the coaches? Unless it's first class coaches from Europe or South America, you can pretty much stop wasting your money!

But why not 10.000? Surely it would be twice as much efficient!

You know what, based on their olympic program (which is the soviet program just with more money) I's say China can dominate pretty much anything except baseball.

Problem is, people in China don't rally do teamwork, despite being a collectivist society. I don't know if throwing more money at it will be enough to solve that.

Just throwing more money at a problem in typical fashion. Where do these 5000 teachers come from? My guess is they are just 5000 average Zhous who themselves do not excel at the sport. Real coaches excelled at the game in their prime.

My question is where will these kids play soccer? Cities do not have many soccer venues left. Perhaps they should have made a directive for basketball coaches. Kids love basketball more than soccer.

Its going to take a long time for those kids to grow up Into adult players. And it wont even matter cause they will still have to take the gao kao and attend conpulsory english classes all their school life.

You could add 5400 'real' teachers to teach the youth something useful, but hey, more teams to lose at soccer and increase the amount of people who deride China worldwide is cool, too.

Nice plans there, China, it would be a great shame if some corrupt officials, lazy glory hunters or clueless teachers would ruin them for you.
