Hundreds of Wuhan University Students Flee Stifling Dorm Rooms

Students at a university in Wuhan have made the news in a way not to be envied by anybody. Due to blistering temperatures outside reaching well into the mid-30’s Celsius, students at a Wuhan university have been flocking en masse to the school gymnasium and overnighting there, in an effort to escape the suffocating heat of their own dormitories.

The students’ dormitories all have air conditioners installed, but their dorms were impacted by electricity quotas meaning they are no longer able to use those air conditioners. To add to their woes, the past few days have seen temperatures around 36℃, leaving the school with no choice but to open the gymnasium for the affected students to live in until the next morning.

The single gymnasium may not be enough. The gymnasium was completely packed on the evening of July 27th, requiring the school to further open up the gym’s dance room in order to accommodate the horde of students. About 300 have been going to the gym every evening to escape the stifling heat of their dorms.

The school has since contacted their electricity provider asking for a greater allotment of electricity, but it seems the students will have to wait until about July 20th until they can use their air conditioners again.

One can only imagine if more facilities will be needed if temperatures continue to rise. Wuhan is one of the three “famous furnaces of China” after all.

Why not just use fans? Better than sharing a gym with 300 other people.

And they're cheap too, the six guys in the room could have chipped in a few kuai each and they'd be sorted
