Nanjing Law Enforcement Personnel Caught Fishing in Flooded Street

Nanjing Law Enforcement Personnel Caught Fishing in Flooded Street
Jun 23, 2015 By eChinacities.com

During recent bouts of heavy rainfall that affected many parts of China, a spectacle emerged in Nanjing which caused city residents to be torn between laughter and tears: city workers which where presumed to be arriving to help drain meter-deep water from a flooded road instead pulled out fishing nets and started fishing in it.

Deep water caused by flooding was enough of a nightmare for most people in the area, but it wasn’t enough to stop two young workers in a law enforcement vehicle from driving through it and having some fun fishing.

That fun came to an abrupt end when they noticed people taking pictures of them, after which they quickly packed up and left the scene.

It was speculated that fish from a nearby aqua farm swam out into the flooded road and the two workers had already finished their official duties by the time they decided to go fishing in that spot.

I used to fish for Chesapeake Bay rockfish when I was living in Maryland. Good eating, let me tell you. But I've never had Nanjing streetfish before; I bet it would go good with the local Master Gao IPA.

Totally useless law enforcement personal... no wonder there is so much chaos (cars parked in the middle of the street, crowds trampling people to death, domestic violence fistfights in public).

"It was speculated that ... the two workers had already finished their official duties by the time they decided to go fishing in that spot". Seems pretty unlikely that they had finished their jobs properly if they were able to go fishing there.

it's not that there was fish, as you can fish in the river any given day. it's that the fish were farmed for profit and are now out loose. it's finders keepers with someone else's property. that's the main attraction. Chinese only get excited about things if there is some hidden agenda at another's expense. even emergency staff during a calamity.

Well, may as well make the best of a bad situation.
