U.S. Arrests Chinese Professor for Economic Espionage
May 21, 2015 By eChinacities.com

United States authorities have charged six Chinese citizens, including three Tianjin University professors with economic espionage.

Professor Zhang Hao was arrested on Saturday when he flew into Los Angeles from China. Zhang's lawyer said that the case was an issue of “copyright.” Zhang's wife stated that her husband's arrest was “unjust.” The other suspects are currently in China.

Zhang had flown into the United States to speak at a conference. This arrangement was reportedly a “fishing attempt,” by U.S federal law enforcement. When Zhang was arrested in Los Angeles, he and his wife were traveling together on tourist visas.

Zhang and accused colleague Pang Wei both earned doctorate degrees from the University of Southern California and worked for U.S. companies Skyworks Solution in Massachusetts, and Avago Technologies in Colorado, respectively, before returning to China to teach at Tianjin University and start their own company.

Zhang and Pang have been accused of stealing information about a technology used in smart phones, PC tablets, and GPS devices. The technology is known as thin-film bulk acoustic resonator or FBAR. FBAR technology has military applications, as well as commercial ones.

The U.S. has indicated a total of six people on 32 counts including conspiracy to commit economic espionage, theft of trade secrets, economic espionage, and abetting the theft of trade secrets.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that the Chinese government is seriously concerned and is further investigating the situation. The Ministry added that the Chinese government will ensure that the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens are not impaired in Sino-U.S. exchanges.

There is not enough information in 5this article for most of these statements....sadly, the truth is many of these types of so called espionage are not criminal in reality...and only become such when $$$ comes into play by one or the other regardless of nationality or implied trademark infringements.

Two notes I want to make: 1. FBAR technology has military applications...They left out the "U"...FUBAR. Many will not know what this means. But, those that do, will probably agree with the connotation made. 2. China wants the American government to send Chinese nationals back to China who took billions of RMB out of China. But, they spit at us when we try to protect American interests and our own economy. China's government needs to wake up and realize that they can't always have their cake and eat it too. One day they will wake up and realize how to be part of the global community.

We are all sellouts from individuals to corporations, we all fell into China's trap, cheap products and cheap labor. Who forced Skyworks Solution to hire these chinese guys if not for lower salaries. In fact they're as guilty as their former employees, you can teach someone to fish but you can't tell them where and for whom.

Times are changing, the Chinese "Century" is already over, India's premier Modi has been anything but harmonious during his visit to China, Kerry as well. Everyone is pissed with China's BS and no one wants China to be the big bully it dreams to become. The industrial apparel is leaving China, Vietnam observes and rubs its hands.
