Chinese Students Can Now Apply to University of San Francisco With Gaokao Score
May 13, 2015 By eChinacities.com

See ya, SAT tutors. Chinese students applying to the University of San Francisco this year only need to submit their college entrance exam or gaokao scores. No other tests are required for Chinese applicants.

University of San Francisco president Paul J. Fitzgerald announced in Beijing that Chinese high school students do not need to take the IELTS, TOEFL or SAT when applying to the university from 2015 onwards. Fitzgerald said that Chinese students can submit their gaokao scores and sit for a face to face interview with admissions staff. The interviews, held in China, will be the main test of the applicant's language abilities, enthusiasm for learning, and readiness to study in the United States.

Fitzgerald noted that while the SAT is an effective measure of an applicant's ability for logical, analysis and reasoning, it fails to cover all aspects necessary to succeed in college. He also mentioned that studies have shown that the SAT is often not a good predictor of academic performance in college.

Fitzgerald believes that for Chinese students, the gaokao is a good measure of overall proficiency and whether the students are able to work hard and get quality results.

The students applying with their gaokao scores will be accepted based on merit. There is no limit on how many students will be given admission. The students who enroll will be able to chose any major they want.

Three American universities already accept gaokao scores: Illinois Institute of Technology, Brigham Young University, and Suffolk University.

and by 2016..you can an go to Univ of SF with only 3 requirements: (1) a birth certificate and (2) doctor's note stating you are breathing and (3) bank statement showing lots of money. Oh what about the student's academics? no need for that..... sad

So replace a flawed test like the SAT with a perfect test like the Gao Kao that really shows a student's English level and critical thinking skills. Oh wait....

Its been an ongoing trend throughout American universities for at least the past 2 decades to include more and more international students. International Students pay much higher tuition than out-of-state and in-state students. Universities are run like a corp biz now...all about the $$$$. Sad, but true.

'Fitzgerald noted that while the SAT is an effective measure of an applicant's ability for logical, analysis and reasoning, it fails to cover all aspects necessary to succeed in college.' Lame, stupid excuse. If SAT can't fully satisfy your requirements, create other tests in addition to SAT, even a 10 year old kid knows that! Stop insulting people's intelligence, how much pay increase did the board promise you, ie after they got their share, Fitzgerald? Same goes for the other two 'universities'.

So now San Francisco is the latest place to sell their soul to the Chinese. My question is, when will the Chinese return the favour? My guess is never!
