China Publicly Blacklists 4 Badly Behaved Chinese Tourists
May 08, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Xinhua reported that China has begun to blacklist Chinese tourists who behave badly abroad and at home. Being put on the blacklist more like a serious warning: travelers will face restrictions signing up for tours or staying at hotels. It may have other implications as well- blacklisted Chinese may find it more difficult to extend bank credit, or receive visas to travel out of China.

Four tourists were placed on the blacklist on May 6. Two of the tourists on the list are tourists named Zhang Yan and Wang Sheng. The two were traveling as part of a tour group on a flight from Bangkok to Nanjing. Zhang had wanted to make his own instant noodles on the flight, but became angry when the flight attendant told him he would have to pay for hot water. Zhang threw hot water at the flight attendant and the two men began to scream at and threaten the plane staff. The plane was forced to divert back to Thailand and Zhang Yang was taken away by Thai police. The two are on the blacklist until 2017.

The third name on the list is Beijinger Zhou Yue, who opened the emergency exit door of China Eastern plane to protest a plane delay on January 10, 2015. Zhou was detained for 15 days and is on the black list until 2017.

The longest blacklist sentence was given to Li Wenchun, who was put on the blacklist for 10 years for climbing a Red Army statue in 2015. The photos of Li climbing the statue went viral online, causing widespread condemnation.

10 years for climbing a bronze statue without seemingly damaging it, but only 2 years for throwing boiled water at someone and having a plane diverted. Even if they idea is good they have to reconsider the priorities.

Shame on ECC for harmonising the comments that were not even provocative.

there were a few comments regarding the disparity of the bans received for the different people, and the fact that a 10 year ban was excessive. Again well done ECC for some bizarre harmonisation.

You guys are missing the best part. Assult with scolding water, bomb threats, delaying a plane full of people nets you 2 years black list. "disrespecting" a statue yields 10 years. All is well in Middle Kingdom. All is well.

China's middleway, what is in my control I am paranoid about, I have an air-purifier at every corner of my house and I bribe any school principal to get my kid in, and what isn't under my control I don't give a damn about, my factory continues to pollute the environment while I throw cigarette butts out of my Audi.

That's pretty lame, only until 2017? It should be at least 5 years or even permanent as these people aren't even really fit to travel (as they have proven). And some moron climbs a statue (sure its a statue of a bunch of Mao's brainwashed army that tortured their own parents and teachers) and he gets 10 years? China should just black list logic because it surely doesn't apply here.

For what it's worth, "Red Army" (红军) is very different from "Red Guards" (红卫兵). The Red Army is the precursor to the PLA, whilst the Red Guards were the ones that tortured their parents and teachers. But I'd agree it's ridiculous to give the guy who climbed a statue a sentence five times longer than the one given to the guy who could have permanently disfigured someone by throwing scalding water on them...
