Photos of a police raid of the Chengdu Uber headquarters have recently gone viral on Weibo. The pictures show large crowds outside the office building which houses the company's headquarters and police guarding the entrance of the building. A number of Uber drivers at the building site were pictured surrounded by police. Uber said that they could not verify what was happening in the viral photos.
Uber Guangzhou had been raided by police just a few days earlier on April 30. The Guangzhou Public Security Exchange Commission and Industry and Commerce Departments checked up on the company in a joint action because of “suspected illegal business.” Uber responded after the Guangzhou raid that the company would maintain its normal operations and continue to provide services to passengers. Guangzhou residents have confirmed that Uber service is running normally in the city.

Its good to know the UBER is shaking things up. Everyone knows that taxis in China are not the best, and consumer are willing to pay for something better. If the taxis think they will lose business to UBER, then they should step up their game and improve, and not complain that their business will be taken away by the new player. Competition is good!

I live in Guangzhou and I can tell you first hand that the taxi services here are an absolute disgrace. I have never, ever been to a city where taxi drivers are so rude, inconsiderate and down right lazy. Taking a taxi in GZ is a nightmare at the best of times. The drivers here just don't want to take you anywhere! I have been using über for the past month and will continue to do so. It's a breath of fresh air and I hope it cripples the woeful Chinese taxi system.

Interesting how people have different experiences in the same city. I live in zhujiang newtown & very rarely have problems with taxis in Guangzhou. Sometimes difficult to flag one down (near the sports centre is worst!). I did have one during the last Canton fair ask for 100 for a 10 kuai trip & he got told to bluntly F Off! The next one, 2 minutes later used the meter straight away. I've also started using didi dache to order taxis & that works well. My wife swears by Uber so will look into it.
