Photos of a female teacher on a school outing being shaded by a student with an umbrella throughout the day recently went viral on the Chinese internet. The female teacher in the photos cried after her picture went viral. She said that she and the student had an ordinary student-teacher relationship and that the outing was very casual. She did not expect to be held up as an example of teacher misuse of power when she accepted the umbrella from her student. The school board and the school will deal with her in the acceptable way, she said, and asked Netizens not to attack the students online.
The teacher, Gu Jie (pseudonym) works at a Gucun Zhongxin School in Baoshan District, Shanghai. The incident was investigation by the Baoshan District Education Bureau. The school's principal Zhao Bin said that Gu Jie has been reprimanded by her school. However, Gu Jie is a young teacher and has only been teaching for 3 years, and she is very friendly with her students. Therefore, Zhao Bin said, she did not refuse her students when they offered to hold her umbrella. These facts were not known by the Netizens who criticized her in the photos. Gu Jie was very surprised when the photos went viral, and said that she feels that the photos damage the image of her as a teacher.
Zhao Bin said that he understands the negative commentary online aimed at Gu Jie, but is upset that remarks have also been aimed at his students. He said that he hopes that these comments will not negatively affect the young students.

I have had my students do this for me at their own urging. I always say I don't need it. But, I'm not going to throw them in a swimming pool for doing it.

This doesn't deserve to be news. People are trying to make it out to sound like she puts her students through slavery but I assume the guys just have a harmless crush on her. She is a young teacher and didn't think some fool who had way to much time on their hands and an axe to grind, would make such a big thing out of it.

And this is the power of the internet. And, sometimes, that power is misused or misguided. I can totally understand a student who idolizes their teacher wanting to be nice and do good for the teacher. If this is truly the case, then so be it. But, if the teacher was using her position over the students, then she should pay the consequences.

No excuses. Even if the student wanted to, you don't let the student do it. You don't allow students to give you gifts or do you favors regardless of how small.

very true, even if the student wants to do so dont let him..she was kind of teaching him that kissing aXX and patronizing in ok ( patronizing and bribing is very common for chinese ) ... she should show him that its not ok .. and to make her happy only with good grades or at least trying to learn, paying attention in class ..etc ... her apology im sure is fake and she still thinks that boys and man in general should hold her purse, her umbrella , pay for everything ..
