Large Numbers of Southeast Asian Women Trafficked in China

On May 3, foreign media reported that China, because of gender imbalance, has become a hotbed for human trafficking. A large number of Southeast Asian women are forced to marry local men in the Chinese countryside. With an increasing number of “leftover men,” China's marriage problems have begun to affect those outside the nation's borders.

In a July 2014 report by the Cambodian Human Rights and Development Association (ADHOC) stated that from January to June 2014, one quarter of trafficked Cambodian women were sold in China. Head of ADHOC's Women and Children's Section Chhan Sokunthea, said that in 2014 the number of victims was much higher, about 50, while in 2013 there were eight.

In 1979, China began to implement family planning policies, and many families still hope to have a son to be the breadwinner of their family. This has a resulted in an uneven sex ratio. By 2020, there will be 30 million more men than women in China of marriageable age.

Have seen this personally in Anhui province, Cambodian women applying for Chinese visas with their "husbands". They don't speak any Chinese, and its ok with Chinese immigration. Its ok with them. They don't care how they got married, they just process the visas. We, by we I mean we who think we live in a civilized world, we should be thankful, we think we are lucky we live "normal" lives with our normal jobs, but probably more than 1/3 of the world lives in poverty, and live in the some what backward ages, therefore these things still exist.

Chinese created this problem themselves and they should resolve it themselves. Tons of Chinese men are buying wives from SE Asia and it seems like the government is doing little about it... instead they crack down on prostitute rings and expect a big pat on the back from the public. Forget the prostitutes and focus on the poor women being kidnapped and sold into slavery.
