Apr 30, 2015 By eChinacities.com

Starting May 1, Beijing will ban begging and performing for money in metro stations and carriages. Violations will be fined 50 to 1,000 Yuan. Those caught distributing advertisements will be fined 100 Yuan to 1,000 Yuan. The city also established an enforcement unit for the new laws. The city's subway stations will now have a member of the unit on duty to enforce the new laws.

This is a sad turn of events and no doubt the traders and entertainers on the subway will be sorely missed, the experience will be less colourful

I hope they do it--the subway lines in Beijing are out of control. You can't go two stops on lines 10 or 1 without hearing that awful music and knowing, in your heart, that some miserable peasant with a dream of sending more than 10,000rmb of naive people's money to his village will be making a beeline for the laowai.

Although the "enforcement unit" will not be available between the hours of 12-2pm as they will be having their noodles followed by a sleep.
