Hong Kong Woman Caught At Shenzhen Border With 1.5 Million Yuan Strapped to Body
Apr 15, 2015 By eChinacities.com

On April 13, customs agents at the Shenzhen Huanggang border caught a Hong Kong woman with a large amount of cash strapped to her body. After investigation, it was found that the woman had crossed the border over 90 times in the past 15 days and was possibly working for an illegal underground bank.

The woman was traveled to Hong Kong through the border located in Shenzhen's Futian district. She carried nothing but a backpack, or so it seemed. Shenzhen's Futian border is usually filled with white-collar workers heading to Hong Kong every morning, but this woman did not look like a typical office worker. She looked to be in a hurry and seemed very flustered. Customs officers stopped her to check her bag. The woman “nervously shook her head, folded her arms and said that she did not bring anything,” said a customs agent. Upon closer examination, customs agents found 1.5 million Yuan, and 49,750 Euro strapped on the woman's chest, inner thighs and feet.

Huanggang Customs has reported 12 incidents in April alone in which smugglers were caught at the border with large amounts of cash. Customs officials said that underground banks use smugglers to carry money across borders. The Hong Kong stock market has done well in April, and has become one of the world's largest capital markets. Mainland Chinese want to invest in Hong Kong stocks in order to get in on the action and some use underground banks to do so.

One reason Hong Kong people don't like mainland chinese emigrating to HK is that many of them use their new ID to commit crimes of all kinds. Old habits die hard.

It is a bit surprising that she seemed flustered and nervous after already having done it 90 times. You would think she would be cool as ice as that point.

I used to cross this border on a daily basis, and met all kinds of scenes... I think, both to customs agents as well as frequent crossers, there is still no day that is exactly the same. You could cross a thousand times and still be surprised at what happens around you/to you.
