Large Number of Civil Servants Want A New Job
Apr 08, 2015 By eChinacities.com

There has been a significant increase of civil servants looking to change careers in China because of corruption. Zhaopin, a popular Chinese career platform, reported that in the three weeks after February 25, more than 10,000 civil servants submitted their resumes to potential employers on the site. This marks an increase of 34% from numbers in 2014. Civil servants are currently the “most active,” in looking for a new career.

Civil servants submitting resumes to Zhaopin tend to be looking to go into a new field of work altogether. Civil servants apply to jobs in government, but also in the fields of real estate, tech and investment. These three fields have some of the highest salaries in China. Investment, real estate and other industries are heavily affected by government policy. Civil servants understand government policy, and are able to communicate well with government officials.

Foreign companies are accused of bribery all the time but local companies are not. CCP is dreaming that punishing the receiving hands and not the Chinese giving ones would get the job done.

Can't pay of those new apartments, Audis/Benz/BMWs without that incoming bribe money. 4000-5000 RMB per month just won't hack it...

Unfortunately for these job-seekers, civic apathy, self-entitlement, and the ability to squander public resources are not marketable skills.

Haha, that's great! My friend whose phone was stolen should have done that too to combat the indifference of the police officers! But then again, in a country where child abduction is not treated seriously, having your phone nicked ain't gonna cause too much concern...

Civil servants, along with doctors, lawyers and a few other occupations probably represent the only professions that pay well enough for its active participants to consider a change of career. It's difficult to pursue a career change when you've got bills to pay and mouths to feed all while working on a monthly salary of 4000 RMB.
