Beijing to Restrict Even and Odd License Plates Based on Pollution Forecast
Mar 31, 2015 By eChinacities.com

This morning, the Beijing Municipal Government announced that the policy of restricting even and odd license plates on certain days will be revised in accordance with the pollution forecast of the day. Beijing's “Heavy Air Pollution Emergency Plan,” breaks the pollution forecast into four levels: blue, yellow, orange, and red (from light pollution to heavy pollution). The new plan will restrict license plate use according to the day's pollution forecast. The government's philosophy is to start early and therefore reduce emissions early.

How about introducing a "Pay As You Drive" system? Many are on the roads just because they WANT to be, but NEED not be.

Amusing... so when you think of it... companies can still sell cars, governments still get their fees and taxes but the people can't drive their cars on certain days because the government can't handle the issue. Why not just restrict car sales? Limit license distribution? Enact a law that states on certain days of between certain times there must be 2-3 people in vehicle (rather than only one)thus promoting car pooling. Reduce construction rates, enact higher standards on factory emissions... are they purposely this dense? Why does China always come up with the dumbest solution to problems?

Exactly, they're still allowing people to buy cars. Traffic is terrible on Friday , and an absolute nightmare on Saturday. Every farmer wants to drive their car.

A single word "INCOME" ,that's the most important for the goverment. You're paying taxes, fees, high insurance etc, etc. only to find yourself looking for spaces to stroll your beloved cars and some square foot to park it. No one coming up with the idea of a rebate on insurance taking in 52 days of none driving in a year.

Like this will even make a difference. We all saw the article last week with two cars with the same number plates.
