Wuhan College Students Made to Run Laps as Punishment for Failing Class
Mar 27, 2015 By eChinacities.com

“One lap down, two laps to go...” Recently on the Huangjiahu campus of Wuhan University of Science and Technology, more than 30 out of breath students ran laps while another small group of students counted their laps. The students were being punished because they had failed a specific department's course. The department's faculty's philosophy is, once the students are forced to run laps after failing, they will never fail another course again.

The student told reporters that they were not running for exercise, but were being forced to run 1,000 meters for failing as course. They said that this was a new rule recently introduced by the department's faculty. The insane punishment seems to be working: in 2013, more than 80 students were made to run. This year, only 30 students had to run the 1,000 meters. One student this year, however, failed five classes in the department and had to run 5,000 meters. Seems like someone is in the wrong major!

kuriku

Is it the exertion that works or the shame for having to run that works?

Nothing wrong with that. I had to endure it too during military service many years ago. It makes you learn quickly.

'The insane punishment seems to be working: in 2013, more than 80 students were made to run. This year, only 30 students had to run the 1,000 meters.' The 30 probably couldn't afford the hongbais. LOL
