On March 11, the Times Higher Education Supplement reported the 2015 ranking of world universities according to academic reputation. Tsinghua University moved up the list 10 spots and Peking University advanced 9 spots.

The list is put together from a survey of top scholars and ranks the world's 100 most prestigious universities. This year, Harvard University beat out the University of Cambridge for the top spot, followed by University of Oxford, MIT and Stanford University.

Chinese universities have recently made great progress in terms of world rankings. Tsinghua University was ranked at 26, after having been ranked 36th last year. This year is also the first year that Tsinghua has surpassed Japan's Kyoto University. Peking University was ranked 32nd, up from 41st last year. University of Hong Kong was ranked 50th this year, a drop from its old ranking of 43rd. Times Higher Education Supplement editor Phil Batty said that, “China has made progress in two of the top schools in their country. This commitment to development reflects their statuses as world class universities.”

Overall, most of the universities included in the list are from the United States: 26 out of the top 50 universities are American. The United Kingdom has the second most universities in the top 50. The highest ranking Asian university is the University of Tokyo, ranked at number 12.

I'm sure the ban on foreign textbooks will help them move up a couple of spots next year and the year after that too.

Sigh...old habits die hard, pathological liars. Who are you trying to fool, simpletons using simplified chinese? LOL In a well established field like this, how long have they been doing these surveys? 5 years. How and who did they interview? Who funds this organization? God knows. My guess, they accept CCP 'donations' if not owned outright by CCP. Common sense, in a well established field like tertiary education, when a survey says a university jumped 10 spots like Tsinghua did you know something is fishy. Take a look at this one which has a track record of 30 years and made public their methodology. Not that easy to bribe. You found that out too, china? LOL Hong Kong U ranked 42nd, U of Tokyo 24th, Kyoto U 60th, Tsinghua 67th on the list. www.usnews.com/education/best-global-universities/articles/methodology
