A 5-year-old in Beijing managed to get inside a display model Tesla, start it, and drive it into a baby’s stroller, all while surrounded by a crowd of adults.

Tesla had hired a booth in Tongzhou Wanda Plaza Mall and was displaying a red and white version of the Model S. The cars were open and switched on, so that customers could ‘fully experience’ the new model and see the dashboard display in its full glory.

According to Shanghai Daily, the boy got in to the white one and managed to start the engine, drive forward six meters and crash straight into a red pushchair with a baby inside. The baby’s mother managed to snatch the baby off the ground before anything else happened and the baby seemed relatively unharmed.

The Tesla staff seemed pretty unshaken by this, as pictures taken after the incident occurred, showing another child sitting in the driver’s seat of the red model. Tesla helpfully shoved a block under the brake pedal to stop the car from starting and put a ‘do not touch’ sign on the display.
