Police were called on a 42-year-old man after he attacked his girlfriend in the stairway of their building.

Tan, attacked his girlfriend, 45-year-old Wu, after he saw her take her money and cards from her purse and walk out when she thought he was asleep. Believing she was leaving him, he flew into a rage and ran after her, hitting her in front of his neighbours, who called the police.

It transpired that Wu had simply gone to the apartment to get some money and had believed that Tan was asleep, had taken some money to pay back a colleague to whom she owed money. She hadn’t wanted to wake him, so she came in and left without speaking to him.

Wu sustained cuts to her nose and mouth in the attack and both were taken to the police station for questioning, where they managed to get the real story. Wu, who had been financially supporting Tan, was heartbroken and resolved to break up with him immediately.

The police escorted them home at Wu’s request and she kicked Tan out along with all his clothes and possessions.
