Foreign models in China have been leaving the country to wait out the Spring Festival as work has dried up for them in the run up to Chinese New Year.

Ifeng.com spent the day with four European models as they walked around Chongqing taking in a last glimpse of the city before they prepared to leave. According to the article, the period surrounding Spring Festival is too slow for the foreign models that tend to see a huge drop in earnings at this time.

The models reported that top earnings can reach 40,000-50,000 RMB per month at other times of the year, however, this drops to just a few thousand during Spring Festival. This is mainly because the entire country shuts down and there are relatively few car and fashion shows.

The four models interviewed in the article came to Chongqing to work in November, but are now leaving earlier than planned. They said that their agency had seven or eight foreign models on the books in December, but most of them have already headed home, to wait until March when the housing and car shows are back on.
