Customers at a Zhenjiang Hot Pot restaurant were delighted to see Mei Yangyang-a 1.2 meter tall talking robot-serving as their waiter, but little did they know that Mei Yangyang isn’t just a cute novelty; since most of the workers at the restaurant have already left for their Spring Festival break, he’s filling in for the holidays.

Zhang Chengcheng, the manager said that Mei Yangyang brings food out to customers and stops by their tables to reassure them that their food is coming.

Zhang said that half of the restaurant’s staff had already left for the holiday and it’s pretty difficult to recruit new wait staff at this time of year, so he decided to pick up Mei Yangyang for the bargain price of 70,000 RMB.

Zhang also hopes that Mei Yangyang will also continue to draw in customers after his workers return.
