China Video Ban Lift Spreads to Whole Country

China Video Ban Lift Spreads to Whole Country

China has completely lifted its 14-year ban on the sale and production of video games and is now allowing consoles to be sold and manufactured across the country.

Earlier in the month, the ban was lifted in the Shanghai Free Zone, allowing for consoles to be manufactured there. Now the State Council has announced that the experiment can be replicated across the country.

The ban was put into place in 2000, after officials worried about the potential for ‘moral corruption’ from violent videogames, and is one of the reasons for the vast popularity of PC games, which dominate two thirds of China’s gaming market.

Big games companies such as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are now gearing up as a space opens up in the gamin market of the world’s most populous country.

New products will still need to be approved by the State Department of Culture in order to get the go-ahead for sales and production.

CCP's message to netizens --- Get off the internet. Go play video games. That way both of us are safer. We like video playing robots.
