A company from Quxing paid compensation to relatives of an employee when he hung himself in his company grounds after being rejected by his office crush. He left behind two elderly parents.
The man, surnamed Zhang, had a crush on his colleague, Wang. One evening he stayed after work and confessed his love. Wang obviously didn’t feel the same way and rejected him.
Zhang, apparently distraught, then went to the courtyard of his company’s compound and used his clothes to hang himself from a tree.
He was soon discovered by a security guard and taken to hospital, but attempts to resuscitate him failed. His family then went to the company to demand an explanation.
Police mediated between the relatives and the company and in the end, the company paid the family 33,000 RMB in support, for ‘humanitarian assistance’.

Very sad story of a man with the broken heart. Company is not responsible for anything. There is an unwritten policy of discouragement of relationships between your work colleagues. Yes, sometimes love happens. But sometimes things like this happen. Always remember folks, there are plenty fish in the sea and there are many trees in the forest.

why would anyone be so stupid to take their life for a girl, sorry but many Chinese are crazy. a bit of self control costs nothing, we don't choose when or how we die , god does. like is not ours to take. disgusting.

It sickens me that when a tragedy happens, the very first though is always who can give money. He probably killed himself because he had souless parents. The girl was just an excuse.

Police mediated... mediate what? For the company to pay out they must have thought they'd lose if it went to court. I guess the family is more connected than the company.

I think that if they only got 33K, they were not that well connected. It is actually common practice for the police to mediate in many situations, to avoid court. It serves it's purpose, even if it is abused in some ways. In the end the company could have refused the mediation and simply went to court over it, this might have cost more in legal expenses than simply paying out. Even if they won in court the cost of the lawyer would have been a factor. The police might have merely pointed that out or they might have been on the side of the family, who knows. The company is not at fault. People need to take personal responsibility for their own actions. It never ceases to amaze me how the Chinese seem to think they are entitled to compensation every time something happens. China is on the way to becoming a litigious wasteland.

i think company is responsible , because every company have workers medical insurance , so if somebody get injured or any accedent happens company pay . This case is differant but company should watch out what is going on , i mean somebody way going to hang himself and nobody was looking , and i am sure if the investigations go on you will find , the company had less guards , they had no medical kit in there , and some other security things , so in this way the company is responsible .
