A nationwide online drinking contest has seen young men across the country down lethal amounts of baijiu in an attempt to outdo each other.
It started with one guy who posted a video of himself chugging 500 ml baijiu after he was late for a wedding feast. This soon escalated as people posted videos of them drinking increasingly dangerous amounts of baijiu in one go, in an attempt to outdo each other.
This latest video, depicting a man downing 3.5 liters of baijiu has gone viral, and has worried doctors so much that they have felt obliged to get involved. A doctor reminded people on Sohu, that consuming such large amounts of alcohol can kill you and described the competition as tantamount to suicide.
They’re right to be concerned; this year a Guangxi official made headlines when he drank himself to death on his first day of work.

Guys first of all Happy new year!!! Second most, this news looks fake and unbelievable, the stomach does not have the capacity of that much fluid at once, especially Baijiu. The concentration of alcohol is very high in this Baijiu, and its irritating and a very lethal dose, 3.5L.

I drank an entire 750 of vodka over several hours for new year's eve. I also had eaten a large meal of bbq, and proceded to vomit 5 times over the next 24 hours...so...yeah 3.5 is not possible.

I often drink more than 3.5L of beer, but that is over the course of a night. I don't believe this story one bit. Everything in China is fake, from booze to videos of drinking booze. The story has probably been fabricated to warn about the dangers of such stupid drinking games. I remember something like this going around the west last year.

Yeah, I remember once some Chinese guy dared me to chug like half a litre of baijiu... and I did because it was to "save face for my brother in law". I could barely keep it down... yeah it was dumb. I didn't mind baijiu much but to chug it like that was horrible. 3.5L is crazy... I bet the guy chugged water. Even if he DID chug it, I can guarantee you he threw it up immediately after the video.

i sculled about 350ml of whiskey for a bet once but 3.5L is mental. It can't be real. How can you even drink that much water in one go
