Heavy Smog Descends Over North China

Beijing, Tianjin and the surrounding areas are currently struggling against another smoggy period, expected to last until Tuesday evening.

The National Meterorological Center has issued a yellow alert for the pollution as PM 2.5 levels began to rise on Saturday. Yellow is the second stage of a four-tier alert system, with blue being the least severe, gradually climbing through to yellow, orange and red.

The smog should begin to clear Tuesday night as a cold front is due to disperse the pollution, hopefully bringing back clear skies for the new year.
