that is expensive, I know some Chinese men they just paid the 14rmb or so to get the marriage certificate, then it is like a certificate to bang the then virgin girl for free until one day she smells the coffee. And in this instance surely they should pay the Australian family the dowry for the chance of the western passport and freedom from a dump of a country.

Your sense of superiority is what makes us all foreigners living in China look bad. China might not be as perfect as England or other developed countries but surely people here are hard-working and always striving for more. The only thing developed countries seem to do is produce more laid-back mediocre people who are usually good for nothing more than just feeling superior to the rest of the world.

What's wrong with moral superiority? "The only thing developed countries....." Don't you know who invented the light bulb, telephones, computers, internet, down to the electric rice cooker that virtually every chinese family has? If anything it is your laughable ignorance that makes foreigners in China look bad.

Yeah mention the inventions, cheap shot, any kid can also mention Chinese inventions. Just don't go around pretending you're part of the genius few. I've lived in the US for 7 years and been around Europe, all I've seen is that a huge percentage of people from such developed countries only live by pretending to have a normal life, pretending to have nice house, a nice car and nice clothes when the truth is that they would even pay for a cheap meal with a credit card. So answering your question, I can bet you have nothing worthy to show for to really justify your 'moral superiority'. People who work very hard, know what saving money is and actually own what they have are the worthy ones regardless of their nationality, race or culture.

I completely agree with you. Most of the time,it is just for show.I am an African girl who grew up in China for the last decade, and I have met people from all around the world, and believe me,most of those from developped countries are so full of shit!Even me,as a college student,I have more than them. They can get away with this attitude because they are white ir african american and that's it!Most of people from developped countries don't have money back home, the economics is now concentrated in Africa and China,so they're looking for their part of the cake, nothing else!Of course, everyone is intitled to their opinion, but this is mine.

@ferna... So throw out those chinese inventions and tell WHEN they are invented, cheap shot. Those things you mention in USA and Europe are things tons of mainlanders have been lying, cheating, stealing, bribing to own, cheap shot. People can work very hard to pay off their mortagage and credit card bills. What makes you think they are lazy, moron? You are simply jeolous of those who have more than you. And there are people who have far more moral integrity than you AND at the same time own far more wealth, be it material and non-material, than you, cloistered low life. LOL

If the groom pays the bride's family, it's called a brideprice, not a dowry.
