Spy Watches Lead to Parent- Teacher Dispute in Shanghai
Dec 11, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A teacher at a well known primary school in Pudong was shocked to discover a student’s parent had been listening in to her classes and monitoring classes via the child’s watch. The watch recorded and sent a live stream to her mother’s cell phone allowing her to monitor everything that was being said in the classroom.

The teacher realised that something was up when one of the mothers made a comment about her child’s whereabouts that lead the teacher to wonder how she knew her child’s exact location during school hours.

The student Xiaoyu’s mother eventually revealed that she had been monitoring classes via her child’s watch, which has remote surveillance capabilities. When asked why she did it, she said that not only did it allow her to see whether her child was actively participating in class, it would also serve to gather evidence in case Xiaoyu was bullied.

The teacher was extremely upset, especially when all the other parents began inquiring about getting one for their child, as she felt it was disrespectful and displayed a lack of trust by the parents. Xiaoyu’s mother eventually apologised and promised not to impose NSA level surveillance on her classes any more.
