Italian Historian Claims Mona Lisa Might Have been Chinese Slave

Italian Historian Claims Mona Lisa Might Have been Chinese Slave
Dec 03, 2014 By eChinacities.com

This might sound like a claim from a Chinese art historian, but actually, an Italian historian based in Hong Kong is behind the claim that Leonardo Da Vinci’s mother, the alleged subject of the Mona Lisa, was a Chinese slave. What?!

He hasn’t just made a claim, but he has even written a book about it which will be published next year; Leonardo Da Vinci: A Chinese scholar lost in Renaissance in Italy.

The novelist and historian Angelo Paratico has highlighted a bunch of facts in the book to support his claims that Da Vinci had Chinese ancestry including the fact that he writes from left to right, and was a vegetarian.

Gavin Menzies' literary agent describes him as an author: "He has fantastic ideas, but he's not an academic, and he's not a natural writer”. He didn't even write 1421. He had a ghost writer to help him with the hard bits. It's not referenced or fact-checked. You can't tell the difference between fact and fiction. Back to school with you.

Actually entirely feasible if you read the book "1434" by Gavin Menzies. It is about how China sparked the Renaissance period in Europe by sending a fleet to Italy with a lot of Chinese inventions and libraries. Many of the art and inventions attributed to Da Vinci were actually copies of Chinese things that existed long before. These fleets always carried lots of concubines and "slaves", so it is possible that some were left behind.

Don't think so. Stop taking credit for other people's genius and inventions. It just makes foreigners laugh.

Menzies is right on. No European likes to admit that though.

Since when is vegetarianism an indicator of Chinese ethnicity? These people eat meat with every meal, providing they can afford it. And there's no way Mona is Chinese. If anything, she looks Filipino.
