Taiwan’s China Times references the English ‘Times’ on November 26, citing King’s College London’s Principal Ed Byrne whose viewpoint is that within 20 years, five of the top Chinese universities will be in the world top 20 list.
Byrne predicted that the five Chinese universities to make the list will be: Peking University, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fudan University and Nanjing University. He said that ten years ago it was difficult to imagine Chinese universities ranking amongst the top 200 in the world, or even the top 500. But now the situation is completely different, as China has put a lot of resources into their universities, and China’s 30 top universities have developed a lot.
Byrne believes that within 20 years, one or two universities will be on par with Cambridge, Harvard, and Oxford: probably Peking University and/or Tsinghua University. This is not because European or American universities are stagnating, but because Chinese universities are developing so quickly.

By then parents will have to pay 1000 times the amount the bribe parents of today pay to get their kids in there. The kids would be flaunting how much bribe their parents use to get them in, through, and out of those 'universities', and how much guanxi they piled up 'studying' there, and how much they made, both 'face' and money, before they even graduate. By these standards these universities already far exceeded OxBridge, HarNell. :)
