The director of the National Internet Emergency Center, Huang Chengqing, spoke at the first World Internet Conference about “cyberspace security and international cooperation” and revealed some interesting data.

According to the internet monitoring center, in the first half of 2014, out of the websites that were hacked, 59.1% were those whose domain name ended with ‘.com’. 48.8% of these were attacked by hackers with an IP address registered outside of China.

There were three main regions where hackers’ IP addresses were registered: 6118 Chinese websites were attacked by American IP addresses, 3097 websites by those from Hong Kong and 2307 websites by those from South Korea.

Huang clarified that this data can be explained by the current network security situation, and says that we must actively promote a partnership of international cooperation.

I can't help but wonder, as I do anytime a Chinese official is quoted, if the numbers and statistics provided are completely fictional.
