Bad China Day? British Expat Turns to Robbery and Violence

Bad China Day? British Expat Turns to Robbery and Violence
Oct 30, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Everyone has the occasional bad China day, and the more different you look, the more likely you are to have people talking about you in public. However, in Zhengzhou, a 20 year-old British expat had clearly had a little bit too much, and snapped.

He overheard two Chinese girls questioning whether it was appropriate to be wearing shorts with temperatures quickly dropping, and completely lost the plot. Instead of just ignoring them, or responding with a remark about the weather as Brits love to do, he attacked the girls, running away with a cell phone and 3000 RMB in cash.

We all know how annoying it can be to be at the center of unwanted attention, but this man clearly needs some anger management classes.

The story sounds kind of fishy to me. We do not hear from the foreigners point of view, nor do we hear from any witnesses... hummm. And how did he so quickly manage to get 3000RMB was it just sitting out on their laps? Most Chinese people keep their money in a wallet inside of a bag tightly locked up away from pick-pockets. But this foreigner was able to open the purse, fish around find the wallet and get the money and get away with no witnesses... I can't find my own wallet in my purse that quickly. And on a crowded subway no one got his picture or a video even though there was a big altercation? Even with proabably 80% of the people on the subway glued to their phones? I am not saying it could not have happened ... but... I am not buying the whole story

Well today at Zhongshan park entrance a very fat pig like Shanghai policeman overheard me and my girlfriend talking in English about nothing at all concerning his ugly self, he was kind enough to accuse me of calling him stupid and in broken chinglish began harassing me in front of a large crowd of old locals. I was minding my own business and just because I said the wors stupid he assumed I was talking about him, his racist and uneducated background had him shouting and swearing at my innocent self. Chinese policemen need a good kick up the arse. This story is bull shit and yet again I stress that foreigners should stay away from trouble and most certainly avoid dealing with Chinese police, will only end in tears. Even if you are right they will threaten to deport you. I was so tempted to retaliate to this fool today but it was wise enough to remember the police will bully Lao wai with threats of deportation or unnecessary fines! The policeman from today, you confirmed my original thoughts of Chinese police , twisted doesn't even come close. This article is most certainly fabricated bullshit. Xie xie

That's awful. That was in Shanghai or Bejing?

I don't really see the connection between feeling insulted and deciding to rob someone. Having had issues with the police here, I'm inclined to call bullshit on this whole story. If it is true, the guy's a bit of a weirdo.

The term "bullying" is the modern psychological one that is typically used when insulting and harassment lead to escalating conflicts in social milieus... Ditto on this stories credibility.

Yeah, I suppose. I wouldn't be surprised if such a thing happened at school, but it seems weird when it happens between people out in public who don't seem to be acquainted :/

I love laughing very loudly at them and pointing at them. One girl that was very obnoxious today looked like she was going to cry. Don't dish it out if you can't take. That's great she was told to shut up or get out.

Sorry but we don't hear the account from the British man only the most certainly twisted and biased account from the Chinese police and so called victims, I can say that Chinese police and people are very quick to turn a laowai into the criminal when in fact they did nothing wrong. I had my iPhone stolen by a gang in Shanghai only for the police to arrive and start smoking with the gang and then accuse me of trying to steal my own iPhone from the gang, eventually I being taken to the station and being asked for 10,000rmb or else I'm kicked out of china they said. I had my phone stolen and I was assaulted ! But the Chinese police spun it round thanks to the backhanders they get from criminals. All in all, this article is bull sh. and is outrageous, we aren't given the true story and this story doesn't cut it for me. Yes I am English but I am just standing up for good old Lao wai as Chinese police are fining and cheating us everyday in this country, in most cases we did nothing wrong or deserved a slap on the wrist. Echinacities can you interview this man ? Would to hear the true story . Xie xie

Well, I for one hope this story blows up even more. Maybe Chinese will consider not whispering and making random comments because a foreigner is introduced to their surroundings. We know when people are talking about us and it is human nature to assume the worst. Of course that doesn't warrant an attack but a lesson can be learned through this. Also, why didn`t anyone help these women under attack (looking at you, Chinese gents)?

I laugh at Chinese people who wear their overcoats backwards on their e-bikes and people who wear pyjamas to their supermarket - they seldom kick me. I'm wearing shorts today and I don't give a shit if anyone points it out.

So what if somebody actually does come over and kick you one day, what is your defense? "Hey! Why did you kick me? I was only laughing at you!" ..and then call the police....because YOU thought they looked stupid?

It probably had nothing to do with the weather. The two girls were probably commenting about the sparsity of the bulge around the front of his shorts.

"Victimless" crimes have victims...Don't play the "lesser evil" card..When it comes down to it, theres no such thing...That's evil's greatest deception...A kick is a kick no matter how hard you take it. Sociology 101..Harassing people constantly (especially the kind that is socially endorsed) leads to escalation. Really. Case in point. ..And let's be sure of one thing: This article doesn't tell the full story.

Like I said this article doesn't tell you the full story. That is obvious. Nor am I about to defend those that consider "unwanted attention" an action that is not offensive. This articles blatantly implies advocating "innocence" for people who are being intentionally provocative and offensive..."Victimless" crimes have victims. You don't want to have the sh@t the fan..Stop throwing it at it...Sooner or later you might figure out you are standing in front of it. That being said: It is possible the girls were artlessly trying to gain this man's attentions.

No excuse, he's a loser for attacking women. And he's a thug for taking their property. What does that have to do with being talked about? And of all the awful racist comments Chinese say directly to foreigners he's gonna lose it over him wearing shorts? This guy was damaged goods before coming to China. This animal should get the max
