I must say that after reading the title of this article I was very curious how the author tackled such, in my opinion extremely difficult, issue. I believe the topic is very difficult because foreigners are very heterogeneous group - North Americans, Europeans (and one should keep in mind that different countries in Europe are different), South Americans, Africans and Asians (non Chinese) have different background and usually different ladder of values. So I read the whole article. Even though I agree with the author of this article that China is absolutely great country so I still believe that he/she shall spend a bit more time on writing such an article. The first (and relatively small)thing I noticed is that safety/no guns (and therefore safety)/law abidance (and therefore safety) is mentioned thrice. Majority of the other things is probably not of a real value for anyone who decided to reside in China (may be with exception of general service level which is really much better than in Europe [but not so much better than for instance in Singapore] and transport infrastructure - trains and plains are from foreigner point of view cheap, comfortable and efficient) and just a small percentage of foreigners out of China are aware of those points. As I totally agree with the author that there are lot of things where China remarkably exceeds the rest of the world (and therefore more and more foreigners from all over the world decides to settle down in China for long time or even for ever) so I dare to suggest to the author to rework the article a bit. Especially with respect to the fact that the article is written in English and therefore clearly aimed at people who has vast experience with living in foreign countries (and as publicised on China expat webpage so also with living in China and therefore they can compare very well the situation in Chin with the situation abroad). The article makes more the impression that it's aimed at local Chinese audience but than writing it in Chinese would make more sense. However rewriting this article in Chinese would not solve the issue with information quality. Sorry for the long comment, which probably few people will bother to read :), but as I am of the opinion that China is absolutely great country so I was a bit sad reading this article which, in my opinion and even I am sure meant very positively, will most probably do a 'bear service' to the true statement that China excels over the rest of the world in many aspects.

Uninformative 8. At this points who is still reading 9. Cheap. Wait did I say that already? 10. ECC please realize it's the lowest form of journalism. Really. Top 5 reasons why websites abuse top X lists 1. Editors aren't paid enough 2. Easy & fast, I get to write whatever I want 3. No attention span required 4. People read comments these days, who still cares about articles 5. Keywords

Propaganda bullshit. This guy's obviously living off a government pay check. They sell their souls for so little here in China. Morals! you left that out didn't you, Mr Wang-ker?

this load of tripe could only be pulled off in China, because it relies heavily on ignorance, poor deductive reasoning and nopersonal experience traveling, or speaking with foreigners. i wish Chinese intellectuals invested as much brainpower on trying to book actual improvements, rather than imagining them.

Ok, now I understand. This was written by a Chinese living in the UK. Ok , if China is so great and other countries suck, why are you living in the UK? I strongly doubt any of the examples listed were real. Canadians afraid of gun violence? The American justice system is worse than a justice system where the victim of being poisoned with opium is guilty of drug use? I really hope all the Chinese who are trying to leave read this and decide to stay.

This article is a total load. Canadian aren't afraid of gun violence... we are more afraid of being overloaded with crazy immigrants to be honest (because we are).

Focus on the trivial or superficial, remove all of the corresponding negatives then add a fairly thick coat of whitewash and it can be said that Professor Yao's "opinion piece" is quite accurate!

I think the writer really should have visited at least a few other countries before writing this article. He really is WAY OFF on many of his comparisons.

I knew he WAY off as soon as I read this was one of the things foreigners envy about China: 1. Law and Order - Is this guy serious? Has he heard of forced demolition?
