On October 14, the courts ruled Shi Acha guilty of extortion, giving her a total of 13 years in prison. The 32 year old woman from Fujian came to Beijing a few years ago. Over the internet, she met Buddhist Ms Wang, her victim.

Between April 2012 and March 2013, Shi Acha used Ms Wang as she claimed herself a psychic, proclaimed to be able to see spirits, and even said that she was able to see the master; Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva.

She even claimed that she was the reincarnation of Avalokiteshvara, and that her body was possesed by the spirits, in whose name she was able to send texts. Shi Acha also convinced Ms Wang to give her money in order to avert disaster and family tragedy.

Within a year, Mr Wang had to borrow money, sell her house, sell jewelry and her car in order to give Shi Acha enough money to avert these tragedies; 3.8 million RMB.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that special powers have been used to extort those with faith.

I can't understand how a person's faith is measured by the amount of money he hands over. Whether it's a product or a belief, people all over the world are sold on tne idea that possessing these products or beliefs will make one's life more meaningful.

This isn't a scam, she was running her own church and found a 'true believer'. To be honest I hate seeing a person like this go to jail, if you are so stupid to believe them then you are at fault.
