Master Kong Pork Noodles Found to Contain Globally-Feared Gutter Oil

Master Kong (康师傅) Roasted Pork Noodles are the latest victim in Taiwan’s chain of food scandals: they have been found to contain tainted oil, and have been removed from the shelves.

Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration has ruled that copper chlorophyllin can be added to some processed foods, but not in cooking oil. Ting Hsin Interational Group is responsible for selling the product, and has been fined 3 million TWD following the scandal.

Scarily enough, China Daily reports that Master Kong is the most popular instant noodle brand in the country, with a huge 44 percent market share in 2013.

This is the second time this brand has been involved in a food scandal, and is not the first time that oil is to blame, although thankfully some Chinese cities have found a more appropriate way to use tainted oil: as fuel.

I agree. This doesn't sound like gutter oil.
