In 2011, a PhD student known as Zheng died while donating sperm to a university affiliated sperm bank, completely unexpectedly and in the middle of the, erm, donation process. The hospital announced that his death was unfortunate, but unexpected.
The family received 88,000 RMB from the university for funeral expenses as well as in compensation, but the family believed that this was insufficient and took three parties to court: the sperm bank, the hospital and the university. They demanded the figure be more than quadrupled to a total of 4 million RMB.
Today the trial came to its final conclusion, and decided that as the sperm donation was voluntary, the three parties were not liable. The parents are not satisfied with this decision.

I know this is a stupid question but is there no-one in this country capable of acting with even some dignity. What kind of selfish low-life would turn the death of their child into a money making opportunity. Chinese wonder why they are looked down on sometimes, just look in the mirror

either way it sounds like the parents were just being opportunistic and greedy, taking advantage of the situation.

True. Sad incident, but was the clinic at fault? I guess not.
