323 extra trains had to be put into operation over the weekend as the railway system struggled to cope with the holiday rush.

Roughly 9.2 million passengers travelled by train across the country on September 6 alone- an increase of 23.2 percent since last year.

Unsurprisingly, the busiest railway lines were linked to Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai, contributing to 43 percent of the overall passenger flow.

Mid-Autumn Festival, Golden Week and the back to school rush combine to make September- October the busiest time of year for train travel in China.
