Officials in Qiemo Country, Xinjiang, have begun offering cash rewards to interethnic couples who get married, reports the Guardian.
Couples where one person is Han and the other is an ethnic minority can receive 10,000 RMB a year for the first five years of their marriage as well as housing, health care and education subsidies.
The purpose of the new policy is to promote “ethnic unity”, according to an official who confirmed the announcement by phone.
However, it may take more than a cash incentive to smooth over ethnic tensions in a region that has seen several major outbreaks of violence this year alone.

can foreigner cash in or not.... foreigner are also minority :p...... welcome to taxpayers money so they pay for this shit package, instead of creating equal opportunity,education,justice, jobs etc... seriously china ! instead of solving the problems you are making more. they will take in the money for 5 years or till the time when this package is expired. later get divorces. whats the rate of divorce in china, its higher then marriages. one city restricted the divorce judiciary cases to 15 per day in china. you can not manage to keep HAN and HAN together so how can you think minorities can. their mother languages will be different, norms, customs, traditions and HAN are considered the modern one. so can they cope with the hardship they may face with each other. xinjiang boys and girl are way beautiful so there is no way to get them marry HAN. exceptions do exists but general i feel it hard a bit.
