UPDATE: Rejected Daughter’s Father Stabs Classmates and Teacher
Sep 02, 2014 By eChinacities.com

More light has been shed on the tragic situation in Hubei province, as it turns out that the 40 year old suspect, Chen, who fatally stabbed three children and their teacher was bitter because his daughter was rejected from the school. She was allegedly prevented from re-registering at the school because she did not complete her summer homework.

The pupils who passed away were two ten-year-old boys, and an eleven-year-old girl. Another boy of the five injured was still in a serious condition in hospital last night.

The incident occurred around 10:20 in the morning, as Chen entered the school looking to register his daughter. He went directly to her teacher, Liu Hongqing, who was checking homework and started stabbing one of the students.

Before he could be stopped by the police, Chen jumped off the roof of the school. This is the second tragic incident linked to China’s highly pressured education system this month, as a boy committed suicide in August following a lie he had fabricated around his gaokao results.

Can someone shed some light on what kind of Summer homework students are supposed to be doing in what seems to be a primary or middle school? I've never heard of any school requiring students to do Summer homework, but perhaps I am just not aware of it since I don't work in the schools. Or maybe this is a private school, not a regular public school?
