The international environmental group Natural Resource Defense Council just issued their “Chinese Cities’ Friendly Walking Evaluation” report.
The report analysed four different aspects of walking in the major cities; pedestrian walking safety, walking comfort, walking convenience and policy and management.
Based on these factors, cities were scored and categorised in one of the following five categories: “walking paradise”, “very suitable for walking”, “suitable for walking”, “relatively suitable for walking”, and “not suitable for walking”.
In total, 35 Chinese cities were evaluated with the top 10 being: Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen, Haikou, Jinan and Jiujiang. Hong Kong was ranked as “walking paradise”, while Shenzhen, Shanghai and Guangzhou were only “very suitable for walking”.
We wonder if this survey takes into account the danger and vicinity of falling walls.
