Wuhan Air Traffic Controllers Fall Asleep and Leave Plane Unsure of Landing
Aug 20, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A China Eastern Airways airplane was forced to delay landing, after communications with the air traffic control tower suddenly stopped. It later turned out that the air traffic controllers had fallen asleep, as reported by the Guardian.

Civil aviation authorities stated that the Boeing 737 called in several times, wanting to land at Wuhan airport, but were unable to, as there was no communication from the towers. It later turned out that the air traffic controllers were taking a quick nap while on duty.

The incident happened on July 8, but there has been no elaboration on why it took so long for the incident to be made public. The incident has, as expected, sparked online controversy, with angry netizens demanding a criminal investigation.

One netizen commented: “ "Air control work is truly exhausting, but it is unforgivable to sleep on duty," whilst another suggested that authorities should “ let him sleep as much as he wants in prison."

Makes you wonder which airspace is safer, the Chinese airspace or the Russian airspace. And they still haven't found MH17.

I thought they are supposed to have multiple air traffic controllers in the tower.

This is absolutely disgusting. It must have been between the hours of 12-2pm. Unacceptable behaviour for someone in that position. Another great effort by the Chinese! They never cease to amaze me by their laziness.
