Nine Arrested in 2Kolegas Raid as Police Sweep Bars Across the City
Aug 12, 2014 By eChinacities.com

Several people were arrested on Saturday evening as Beijing police conducted a random drug spot check across the city. At around 02:00 police raided 2Kolegas, a popular bar in Beijing’s Chaoyang District and sealed the exits before forcing all patrons to submit to drug testing.

People were first alerted when Stephen McDonnell, an Australian Broadcasting Corportation correspondent who was present when 2Kolegas was raided, posted this tweet:

Sources have confirmed that nine were arrested after failing the forced urine test; five of whom were foreigners, who now face deportation.

Random drug testing in bars is uncommon but not unheard of in the capital, but this incident- coupled with the recent arrest and deportation of over dozens of sanlitun drug dealers- and the fact that popular live music venues Dada and Mako Livehouse were also raided, indicates that foreigners are now being targeted specifically.
