With the APEC Senior Officials Meeting being held, Beijing is in a state of heightened security from August 1 to August 22. The Public Security Bureau will increase levels of public security, with 22 checkpoints for vehicles, each of which will be manned by 11 armed gunmen. Security has already paid off, with 44 suspects having been taken in between August 1 and 10.

Following intense security increase, police units at checkpoints have almost doubled.  At the moment, the 22 checkpoints are all operating at maximum security and ID checkpoints will installed on the 200 roads leading into the city, according to necessity.

Gunmen suggests that they are not part of the police or army. Private security? suspicious to say the least. 44 suspects, i guess anyone from xinjiang is a suspect.
