Aug 04, 2014 By eChinacities.com

The town of Ludian in China’s South Western Yunnan Province was struck by a devastating earthquake yesterday, August 3, at around 16:30. The earthquake, which measured 6.5 on the Richter scale, has taken 381 lives so far- however, the number of casualities is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

More than 1,800 people were injured in the quake, which struck at a depth of 12 kilometers. Earthquakes are a fairly regular occurrence in Yunnan province; however, this level of destruction hasn’t been seen in the area for over a decade.

Electricity and communication lines remain disrupted as rescuers from the army and various aid organizations search through the rubble for signs of life.

Samsara

In the wake of this disaster, I would ask people to please give generously to the Red Cross Society of China. There are government officials who need to visit high-end prostitutes and buy expensive presents for their friends. They can't do it without your support.
