Shanghai authorities will be getting tough with illegal vendors next month when new regulations banning stallholders from popular spots around the city are introduced.

The move is mainly aimed at purveyors of souvenirs, snacks, drinks and clothing. Areas to be included in the ban are the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, People’s Square, Xintiandi, Xujiahui and Zhongshan Park.

Vendors will face fines of 50-500 RMB and large scale organizations caught flaunting the ban could face penalties of up to 500,000 RMB.
