Three times a bridesmaid, never a bride? Over 500 hopeful young women are throwing out that particular superstition as they compete for an unusual job.

An up market wedding company in Shenzhen is offering 1 million RMB a year for a position as a full-time bridesmaid to work at the company’s group weddings.

The perfect candidates must be good looking, single, educated and able to handle her booze, because as anyone who’s ever been to a Chinese wedding knows, they can get messy. The company has 100 spots open nationwide.

The successful bridesmaids also get to go to the company’s singles party which will be attended by 100 eligible bachelors with ‘prominent backgrounds’, which for some, is more of an incentive than the money: “I’m here to take a chance at becoming a professional bridesmaid, but what I actually want is to meet my life partner through the occasions this work involves,” said one candidate.
