A traffic accident in Central China’s Hunan Province has left 11 people dead including 8 children. A kindergarten bus carrying children home from their school in Xiangtan fell into a pond yesterday, July 10, at around 17:00.

Rescue workers removed the van from the pond at around 03:00 this morning and recovered the bodies of the driver and eight children- the two teachers’ bodies were found shortly after.

Questions were raised about the overloading of the vehicle as there were only seven seats in the minivan, leading police to speculate that it may have been a contributing factor to the accident.

The lack of regard in China for following simple safety procedures is utterly astonishing. The safety of children should be always come first, but the mentality here is to defy all proper safety precautions in exchange for slight convenience and minimal economic gain. Overloading, whether it be in elevators or various modes of transportation, is disturbingly common in China. Can't these people see the risks involved? Do they even care? Eight precious lives lost because of sheer stupidity and apathy. May their innocent souls rest in peace.

Weren't they supposed to have solved this problem by using US style school buses? But, most times I see adults riding around in them even military and government type people.I guess that's a better use for them instead of protecting innocent precious children. I was reading the Chinasmack article about the comments with regards to the Japanese bombed out map post in a newspaper, so sad and pathetic. Look inward and fix your own problems, that is the only wayto improve your lives not by provoking a peaceful nation whose a million times smarter than you.
