Orphaned Boy’s Second Chance Snatched Away by Guangxi Officials

Orphaned Boy’s Second Chance Snatched Away by Guangxi Officials

A 14 year boy who was orphaned at the age of 10 and has been fending for himself for 4 years, was forced to return to his home village and give up the opportunity for a better life at a school in Shenzhen.

A TV report that was aired in May 23 showed the impoverished circumstances that Yang Liujin had been living in. He survived by digging for wild vegetables and roots, and fishing with tools he made himself, alongside donations of rice from neighbours and 10 RMB a week that he received from a migrant worker relative.

He was orphaned after his grandparents died when he was only 10 years old; his father had died when he was six and his mother abandoned him when she got remarried.

When staff from the Cambridge International Institute in Shenzhen saw the TV program, they got in touch and offered Yang Liujin a place at the private school. There he would receive food and shelter, as well as a higher quality of education.

Unfortunately this wasn’t to last. Two weeks after he started at the Cambridge Institute, the headmaster from his previous school, Guangxi government officials and one of his relatives appeared in Shenzhen, saying that he had to go back to his hometown, because he hadn’t done his exams and filled out the right paperwork to transfer.

The boy was then forced to return to his hometown by officials and relatives who two weeks ago, were happy to let him half starve and fend for himself.

Officials also happened to mention a need to ‘manage’ the 5 million RMB in donations that have been pouring in from sympathetic viewers. There are no words.

China in a nutshell: Family abandoning a child because it's convenient Family "reuniting" with the child because it's convenient Corrupt officials Corrupt officials saving face in the most retarded way possible Poor people getting fucked over The only thing that's missing is arresting the principal of the Shenzhen school for kidnapping, then the list would be complete.

And when the kid gets a job, if he doesn't kill himself, the mother will probably go to court and use the "you must visit your parents law" and demand half his pay.... The scramble to save face. Oh how it is culturally great

This is typical of Chinese culture. The stepfather feels he is not of my genes, he is not my son, therefore not my problem. Most street kids are products of this situation.

OMG... how do these people (relatives/officials) live with themselves? Not only do they NOT help him in his time of need, but when he finally catches a break... they uproot him and rip him away from the chance for a better life. This article is right... there are no words... well except... China's government is a TRULY a piece of crap!
