A new bullet train service will allow passengers to make the journey from Shanghai to Chengdu in just over 15 hours, shaving 5 hours off previous services. Ticket prices have not yet been announced.
The train will depart from Shanghai Hongqiao at 06:36 and arrive in Chengdu at 21:45. In the opposite direction, the train will leave Chengdu at 08:00, arriving back in Shanghai at 22:58.
There will also be a new service starting next month between Shanghai and Chongqing, reducing the journey time to 13 hours and 18 minutes.

Why not to xi'an as well? they need to improve connections in the north west as well
