Mechanic Blown Onto Roof in Faulty Tire Explosion, Loses Pants
May 05, 2014 By eChinacities.com

A mechanic got the shock of his life when he was doing a routine tire change on a vehicle on Friday. The tire he was inflating suddenly exploded and the man was flung ten meters into the air and onto a nearby roof, while his trousers were also blown off in the process.

Wang Bing’s right leg was broken, and his pants had completely disappeared when firefighters discovered him on the roof, but he didn’t sustain any other injuries.

He’s now being treated in hospital, in Mianzhu, Sichuan Province.

One of his colleagues, Li Kang, said that he’d never seen anything like it in ten years on the job. Shovel loader tires, like the one he was working on, are around 1.25 meters in diameter and have a pressure of 500 kilopascals: that’s 5 kg per square centimeter.
