How much does it cost to get married these days? This is a loaded question, particularly in China where getting married can sometimes be reliant on your ability to fulfill certain financial requirements, like owning a house and a car.
Well now we can find out, as rankings detailing the costs of obtaining and keeping a wife have been released for China’s major cities. The rankings take into consideration wedding costs, local housing prices and the money spent whilst wooing the lucky lady.
Shenzhen was on the top of the list with an average cost of 2.08 million RMB with Beijing and Shanghai close behind with costs of 2.02 million RMB and 2 million RMB respectively. Number four was Hangzhou at 1.78 million RMB and Guangzhou was fifth at a relatively reasonable 1.28 million RMB.

This became one of the reason China men looking for overseas woman (Vietnam, Philippine, etc) because china woman now a days is pretty expensive...

Therein lies the reason for the ever increasing shengnu. In my opinion, the prerequisites for marrying a women is just too much to bear for men here. How many men can actually cough up those sums of money. In my country, a couple gets together and work out how long BOTH contribute to the family building, not just the guy alone. Here, women still expect the men to pay for everything and she stays home, plays mahjong, have tea with like women and boast how capable their men are. Typically ignorant people. Is there a panacea for such ills? I think China needs a HUGE financial downturn like a major recession or financial crisis to slap everyone awake, especially the women and their parents. Apparently, they don't know how difficult it is for the men to buy a wife these days.
