13 Brands of Bottled Water Fail Routine Safety Inspection in Guangzhou
Apr 25, 2014 By eChinacities.com

During a recent safety inspection in Guangzhou by the local Quality Supervision Department, 13 brands of bottled water were labeled as substandard.

Eighty percent of the samples from these brands had unacceptable levels of bacteria, with Ganlong (produced by the Guangzhou Yulong Spring Water Co Ltd) found to contain over 3100 times the national standard for bacteria in drinking water.

Excessive levels of bacteria can cause serious issues with peoples’ digestive systems, among other problems. All the brands that failed the inspection have been seized by authorities. The brands that failed the inspection include: Baodi, Gaoshanquan, Liuxijiaxiangquan, Wulingshan, Qingsui, Dinghua, Dingqiang, Anqi’er, Keliyin, Ganlong, Senpowan, Yili and Maidishan.

Yet another reason to leave. Wow, I'm finding more and more really good reasons to leave China.

Sometimes, I think tap water is cleaner than treated water. In treated water you don't know what you are getting because you don't know how it's packaged. Having seen some bottling plants in Guangzhou, I'm not sure if bottled water is safer than tap water. At least with tap water I will boil it before drinking. Bottled water, well, off with the cap and straight into the body system.

This is why I have a water filter. I filter the "bottled water" at leadt twice before I drink it.
