Yesterday morning a taxi drove straight into a river in Jiangsu Province. The car was driving in heavy fog and ended up driving directly into the water. The driver and his female passenger were seen opening the door and swimming safely to shore.

The driver surnamed Xu is a local taxi driver and that morning he picked up a passenger from Dongcheng District. Because the highway was closed and he wasn’t too familiar with the roads he decided to use a GPS to help him find his way, and it led him into the middle of a river.

Xu explained that his main mistake was putting total faith in his GPS which he had just bought online for 200 RMB over Spring Festival. According to the police the accident site was a kilometer off the correct route.
